South-East governors name Second Niger Bridge after Buhari

The newly commissioned Second Niger Bridge has been named after President Muhammadu Buhari by governors of the South-East region.
The naming of the bridge was announced by Tolu Ogunlesi, a media aide to Mr Buhari via a tweet on Tuesday.
“Following consultations, the governors of the South-east have agreed that the second Niger Bridge shall be named the Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge,” Mr Tolu said.
Mr Bashir Ahmad, a special assistant to Mr Buhari on Digital Media also confirmed the naming of the Second Niger Bridge via a tweet on his page.
He tweeted, “The Second Niger Bridge is to officially be called/known as Buhari Second Niger Bridge. The Muhammadu Buhari Bridge is officially commissioned today, by President Muhammadu Buhari. #PMBLegacy.”
The decision to name the bridge after the President was reached by the governors who wanted to show appreciation to Mr Buhari for completing the project in his tenure.
The Second Niger Bridge was virtually commissioned by President Buhari on Tuesday amongst other landmark projects across the nation.
The bridge project was initiated on the 1st of September 2018 and was completed and commissioned in 2023.
The idea behind the construction of the second Niger Bridge is to ease the traffic on the first Niger Bridge and provide an alternative route into the southeastern part of the country.
The bridge stretches from Asaba in Delta State to Ogbaru and other communities in the south-East.
The bridge has already been used by motorists long before its commissioning on Tuesday.
