Sokoto, UNFPA distribute sanitary, delivery kits to 150 women, girls

The Sokoto State Government in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), on Monday distributed sanitary and child delivery kits to 150 adolescent girls and pregnant women.
Speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hadiza Shagari, said that the effort was part of the government’s social support programme.
Ms Shagari said that the sanitary kits would support the daily upkeep and sanitary needs of adolescent girls in the state.
She said, “The child delivery kits popularly called mama kits, are for pregnant women, these are items they need during childbirth. We urge you to use the kits for the purpose they were given, do no sell them. They are to improve your wellbeing.’’
The commissioner reiterated the commitment of the Governor Ahmad Aliyu-led government to improving the wellbeing of Sokoto people.
Ms Shagari further stated that the state government would continue to partner relevant stakeholders to implement life-transforming programmes in different sectors.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Alhaji, commended the UNFPA for its support towards improving the welfare of the people.
He said, “UNFPA has been supportive in terms of surgeries, medical equipment, rehabilitation and reintegration programmes, among others, we can’t thank them enough.’’
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event commended the state government and UNFPA for the gesture, describing it as well-intended.
