Sokoto creates security outfit, Community Guards Corps, to fight bandits

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has assented to a bill establishing the ‘Community Guards Corps’ in Sokoto.
Mr Aliyu described the bill as a significant milestone in his administration’s efforts to guarantee the security and development of Sokoto.
“The effort was delivered to address incidents of kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminality facing the state.
“It was part of the commitment to curtail the menace and engage collaboratively with neighbouring states in the fight against insecurity,” said the Sokoto governor.
Mr Aliyu commended the Sokoto House of Assembly members for their support in realising the initiative.
He emphasised that the establishment of the corps was also aimed at providing a collaborative mechanism with statutory security agencies to support maintaining a safe and livable environment for all citizens.
Mr Aliyu clarified that setting up the corps was not to pose challenges to security agencies but to enhance their efforts in identifying societal threats and providing crucial information.
“This initiative aims to complement the dedication of our security agencies, working collaboratively to identify and support the removal of undesirable elements from our society,” the governor stressed.
He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring people’s safety, property, and the overall environment.
Mr Aliyu appealed to citizens to continue supporting the government through prayers and sharing information to foster a secure Sokoto.
