Sokoto commission of inquiry adjourns for ex-gov Tambuwal’s appearance over sale of govt assets

The Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry has adjourned its sitting to Wednesday to allow Senator Aminu Tambuwal (PDP-Sokoto South) to appear as a witness in relation to nine memos.
This was disclosed by Amanzi Amanzi, counsel to the commission, while addressing journalists after its sitting on Tuesday in Sokoto.
Mr Amanzi revealed that the Sokoto State government submitted the memoranda outlining alleged activities during Mr Tambuwal’s tenure as a state governor.
“The matters were specifically fixed for witness number one in the memos, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of the state.
“He was scheduled to appear before the commission on Tuesday to provide his perspective and explain the issues raised in the memos.
“However, counsel representing the witness informed the commission of his absence, offering very limited details regarding the reason behind it,” he said.
Mr Amanzi emphasised that the commission’s primary concern was the witness’ presence, not that of his counsel.
“Our submission to the witness and his counsel is that considering the significance of the matter and the fact that it was scheduled specifically for witness number one, the hearing should be adjourned to Tuesday.
“This submission was accepted by the commission to ensure that the former governor can appear before its sitting,” Mr Amanzi added.
He explained that the memoranda contained allegations of improper monetisation of government vehicles and other valuable state assets during Mr Tambuwal’s administration.
Mr Amanzi said the complaints were documented in the memoranda, and the commission expected explanations from the former governor before finalising its investigative report.
He said the report would be submitted to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for further action.
