A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old shop assistant, Sarah Ochai, to nine months’ imprisonment for cheating her employer.

Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Ms Ochai following her guilty plea.

Ms Ochai was given an option of a N20,000 fine.

The magistrate also ordered Ms Ochai to pay compensation of N180,000.

The prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on January 5 by Ifeoma  Nwakwan, the complainant.

Mr Gokwat said the complainant employed the convict as a shop assistant.

The police said the convict defrauded the shop owner of N186,190.
