A tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, has left multiple people dead and at least six others injured, according to police.

According to The New York Times, the suspect, identified as a juvenile believed to be a student at the school, was found dead inside the building.

The attack took place at the K-12 school, which serves about 390 students.

Chief Shon F. Barnes of the Madison Police Department confirmed officers responded to reports of an active shooter at 10:57 a.m. Upon arrival, they found several victims with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening.

Police clarified that officers did not discharge their weapons during the incident.

In a press conference, Chief Barnes described the event as a “sad, sad day” for Madison and the nation. He acknowledged earlier reports of a higher death toll, which were later revised by authorities.

President Joe Biden was briefed on the shooting and offered federal support, the White House said.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers expressed his condolences and gratitude to first responders in a statement.

“We are praying for the kids, educators, and the entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information,” he said.

On social media, the school shared a brief statement asking for prayers, adding, “We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able.”
