The police command in Enugu has confirmed one person dead and many wounded in a violent clash among rival groups in Aku community in Igbo-Etiti LGA.
Police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
The Enugu police command stated that rival groups clashed when the community was celebrating its Odo masquerade festival at about 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
The police stated that the clash led to the shooting to death of a man, while many others, including police operatives deployed to restore normalcy in the area, were wounded.
The command added that one male suspect was arrested and a firearm recovered from him in connection with the violent clash.
“Normalcy has been restored in the community and the commissioner of police has ordered the deployment of more police operatives in the community. The CP also ordered for an investigation into the case and bringing the perpetrators to book,” said the police statement.
The statement said that the police commissioner advised residents to be law-abiding and cooperate with the police to bring lasting peace to the community.
