Serious health challenges forcing me to quit content creation: KaganTech

Nigerian tech content creator Oladapo-Ogunsanya Segun aka KaganTech has announced his decision to step away from content creation after revealing a prolonged battle with serious health challenges.
In an emotional video shared on Instagram on Friday, the tech influencer disclosed that he had been gravely ill earlier this year, to the point where he believed he might not survive.
He said the illness forced a major reassessment of his priorities and ultimately led to his decision to leave the space that made him popular.
“I’ve been creating content in this space for what I believe the third quarter of 2022 and it’s been genuinely fun until recently,” he said in the video.
“This year I fell sick to the point that I was completely confident I was going to die, I even executed my last will and testament that’s how bad it was.”
The content creator said his condition required intensive treatment at home after he refused prolonged hospital admission. According to him, the experience drained his passion for content creation.
“My doctors and nurses were calling me stubborn because I refused to stay admitted and I actually moved the hospital at home and was being treated,” he said. “Some days I took as many as 19 injections.”
At the end of the video, text displayed on the screen listed several medical conditions, including a herniated disc in the spinal cord, failing kidneys, fatty liver disease, high blood pressure and refractory malaria.
KaganTech said returning to content creation after his illness felt more like an obligation than a passion, prompting a shift in focus towards personal responsibilities.
“This used to be an escape… but it feels like a chore now, which kind of defeats the purpose of doing this stuff,” he said. “I’m the head of a very important family… if we don’t do it and something happens to us a lot of people are going to suffer and it has become obvious to me that my priority is in the shift.”
He added that he had long considered disappearing from social media entirely and believes the time has come.
“I’m genuinely just done with creating content in this space, I don’t want to do it anymore,” he said, adding that the desk used for recording his videos would be dismantled immediately after the shoot.
In his caption, KaganTech described the video as something he hoped he would never have to share.
“Recorded this a few weeks ago hoping I would never have to post it… but genuinely it was going to happen eventually,” he wrote. “Dear HR @xtraspacestudios I quit.”
The content creator encouraged followers to support newer creators he had introduced in recent months, including Zion and Olumide, describing them as his “final gift” to his audience.
He also warned fans that he might delete or abandon his social media accounts at any time.
“If you for whatever reason have saved any of my videos in your draft… my advice is that you download them,” he said.
KaganTech rose to prominence for simplifying complex technology topics for everyday users, particularly around smartphones, apps and consumer technology.
His short-form videos across Instagram, TikTok and X helped position him as one of Nigeria’s more recognisable independent tech voices, especially among young audiences.
He said while he is leaving content creation, the impact of his work over the past three years remains.
“No one can take away what we achieved in the last three years,” he said. “If you see any tech content creators that you love and follow and they started in the last three years you know I’m the reason why they started to do that content.”
