Septuagenarian killed by lorry on Lekki-Epe Expressway

The police in Lagos have confirmed that a 73-year-old woman, Titilayo Adawi, was knocked down by a lorry driven by one Kazeem Ajibola on the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Monday.
The police spokesman in Lagos State, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development to journalists on Tuesday.
Mr Hundeyin said the accident was reported to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Ilasan Division at 12:10 p.m.
He said the report received by the DPO stated that a TATA Lorry with Reg. No. KRD-165-XZ, driven by Mr Ajibola, allegedly knocked down the woman at Salem Bus Stop, along the expressway, inward Victoria Island.
“As a result of the accident, the victim died on the spot. Based on the report, a team of traffic personnel visited the scene and took photographs of what they saw.
“They evacuated the corpse and deposited it at a public morgue for autopsy.
“Meanwhile, the driver had been arrested, and the vehicle towed to the Vehicle Inspection Office for inspection,” he said.
Mr Hundeyin said an investigation into the accident was in progress.
In another development, Mr Hundeyin said a fuel tank of a diesel generator located within the premises of the head office of Providus Bank exploded on Tuesday, during which one person lost his life.
Mr Hundeyin said seven other persons, including a policeman, were injured in the explosion, adding that those injured had been taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
