Security personnel remanded for stealing inverter batteries

A chief magistrates’ court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan on Friday remanded Raphael Francis, a security personnel, in a correctional facility for allegedly stealing two inverter batteries worth N2.4 million.
Mr Francis, 40, had pleaded not guilty to a count of stealing.
The magistrate, O.O. Latunji, ordered that Mr Francis be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Facility, following his inability to fulfil his bail conditions.
Ms Latunji had admitted the defendant to N500,000 bail with two reliable sureties.
She subsequently adjourned the case until April 9 for the continuation of the hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Oluseye Akinola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 1 in the Yemetu area of Ibadan.
Mr Akinola added that Mr Francis was arrested after he was caught in possession of two inverter batteries belonging to 9 Mobile Telecommunication Nigeria, valued at N2.4 million.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant had been an employee of the telecommunication company, during which various properties went missing under his watch.
He said Mr Francis was unable to account for the missing items.
The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened the provision of Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code 38 vol. ii, Law of Oyo State, 2000.
