Security guard jailed seven years for stealing

On Monday, a chief magistrates’ court in Surulere, Lagos, sentenced a 25-year-old security guard, Edu Nkanu, to seven years in prison for stealing compressors of air conditioners valued at N380,000 belonging to his employer.
Mr Nkanu, who resides at No 14, Babatunde St., Off Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos, was charged on a single count of stealing.
The magistrate, O.O Otitoju, who sentenced Mr Nkanu after he pleaded guilty to the charge, did not give him any fine option.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 8 at No 77, Itire Road, Surulere, Lagos.
Mr Ekhueorohan said Mr Nkanu, who worked as a security guard at a hospital, stole four compressors.
He said the offence contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
