SAPZ engages farmers to boost agro productivity in Kano

The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Programme (SAPZ) in Kano State has inaugurated a community engagement and awareness campaign to improve knowledge on agriculture productivity.
The programme, implemented in six local government areas, namely Bichi, Dawakin Tofa, Danbatta, Gezawa, Garun Malam, and Bebeji, aims to raise awareness among the public, particularly targeted beneficiaries.
SAPZ coordinator in the state, Muktar El-kasim, said at the inauguration in Kano on Saturday that it seeks to enhance agricultural productivity and enterprise development.
He said it also seeks to promote agriculture value chains and job creation in the SAPZ catchment areas.
According to him, the programme also supports agro-industrial zone policy and institutional development.
“The SAPZ programme has four key components, namely Climate-Adapted infrastructure and developing infrastructure for agro-industrial hubs to support climate-resilient agriculture.
”It is also involved with improving agricultural productivity, enhancing agricultural productivity and enterprise development to boost agricultural value chains and job creation.
”It is also concerned with supporting agro-Industrial zone policy; promoting policy and institutional development to support agro-industrial zones.
” It aims at managing program coordination and addressing issues related to farmer registration, validation, and grievance redress,” he said.
The SAPZ programme is funded by the federal government, with support from the African Development Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development and Islamic Development Bank.
It is being implemented in seven states, including Kano and the Federal Capital Territory.
