The Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led Lagos State Government has increased the road tax on Uber and other ride-sharing trips from N20 to N40.

According to a receipt shared by an X user, @MikaelCBernard, on May 8, 2024, N40 was charged for the Lagos Road Development Fund, after a ride was paid for.

He wrote, “Pointus Pilate aka Sanwo Olu has been tearing tickets for everybody booking Uber and other rides in Lagos. He charges every single soul at least 40 naira per trip and calls it “development fund”. Owo mi da cracy has gone digital.”

This adds to the several Federal Government-introduced or hiked taxes imposed on Nigerians, the recent one being the 0.5 per cent cybersecurity tax on electronic transactions to be deducted from customers based on volume of cash transactions.
