Sanwo-Olu flags off first phase of red line rail operations on Tuesday

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos will flag off the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line on Tuesday.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) disclosed in a statement on Monday that Mr Sanwo-Olu will conduct the flag-off of the second rail system for commercial operations.
The statement read, “On Tuesday, 15th October 2024, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will flag off passenger operations of the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, second rail system to become operational in less than two years in Lagos.”
The agency said the first phase of the Red Line “is a 27-kilometre railroad from Oyingbo in Lagos to Agbado in Ogun State, with eight stations at Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju and Agbado.”
The flag off of the Red Line project executed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) comes over a year after the inauguration of the Blue Rail line connecting the island to the mainland in September 2023.
The Red Line is expected to run 20 trips daily and transport up to 500,000 passengers daily when full operations commence.
According to LAMATA, the fare for Zone One, which is a journey from Agege to Oyingbo, will cost N1,000; Zone Two, which is a journey from Agege to Agbado, will cost N500, while the journey from Zone One to Zone Two will cost N1,500.
