Sallah: Peter Obi gifts millions of naira to Muslims in Anambra

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on the occasion of this year’s Eid Al-Adha celebrations, has doled out millions of naira to the Anambra Muslim community.
Mr Obi hosted the Muslim community leaders at his residence in Onitsha on Wednesday, where he fulfilled his promise to support the renovation of the Onitsha and Awka mosques by presenting the leaders of both communities cheques worth millions of naira.
Mr Obi, in an earlier visit to the Awka and Onitsha mosques, had pledged to support the renovation of the places of worship, which were no longer in good shape.
He fulfilled the pledge and also joined the Anambra Muslim community in their Sallah celebrations.
Mr Obi stated that his decision to celebrate the Eid Al-Adha celebrations with the Muslim community in Anambra is to show that brotherly love and unity should exist amongst Nigerians, irrespective of their tribal, political, or religious belief.
“We are all Nigerians, and we will continue to live as one irrespective of our religious or political beliefs. What we owe each other is brotherly love and care, so we can live in peace and unity as a nation. We have no other nation but Nigeria and we must make it work”, Mr Obi said.
“I know that times are difficult for everybody in the country, but if we rise above our religious, political, and ethnic divisions, we will be able to surmount our challenges in unity. We will not give up on our nation but continue to work for a New Nigeria that will be beneficial to every Nigerian,” he added.
In response, the Sarki of the Awka Muslim community, Garba Haruna, commended Mr Obi’s simplicity and consistency. He stated that Mr Obi has shown to be truly a “detribalised Nigerian” by choosing to celebrate the Sallah with them.
