Sales rep arraigned for allegedly misappropriating company’s N11 million

A 32-year-old sales representative, Martha Lazarus, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Gwagwalada Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly misappropriating company’s product worth N11.2 million.
The police charged Lazarus of park road Gwagwalada with theft by servant and misappropriation.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the complainant, Emeka Madu, of Plot 490 Extension Layout, Gwagwalada, Abuja, reported the matter at the Area Command office Gwagwalada on Nov. 13, 2024.
Mr Yakubu said that the defendant, who was employed as a sales representative in the complainant’s company, sold the company’s product worth N11, 288, 742 million to an unknown customer without the company’s consent.
He said the defendant converted the money to her own personal use, adding that when the company demanded those the defendant sold the products to or their phone numbers she could not produce them or the money.
He said that instead the defendant provided a fake number to the company.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 289 and 309 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Olatunji Oladunmoye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N7 million with two reasonable sureties in like sum.
Mr Oladunmoye ordered that one of the sureties must have proof of landed property within the jurisdiction of the court and the property provided to the court.
He said that the sureties must reside in verifiable addresses within the jurisdiction of the court.
He adjourned the case until February 19 for hearing.
