Rwanda evacuates nationals from Sudan

The Rwandan government on Tuesday announced the evacuation of its citizens and other nationals from Sudan as fierce fighting continues between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
A statement by the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said, “Today, the government of Rwanda successfully evacuated 42 people, including 32 Rwandans and 10 people of five different nationalities from Khartoum.’’
The group of 42 people arrived safely in Kigali, the Rwandan capital, aboard a chartered RwandAir flight from the city of Aswan in Egypt, it said.
It added that 10 other Rwandan nationals had returned home, while others were on their way to Rwanda with the support of friendly countries and international organisations.
The fighting in Sudan has reportedly killed over 500 people and left over 4,000 others wounded.
