Russia halts gas supplies to Bulgaria

At a press conference on Wednesday, Bulgarian officials said Russia had suspended gas supplies to Bulgaria, but the situation was under control.
“There is already a physical confirmation of the suspension of the quantities submitted to Bulgaria,” Bulgarian energy minister Alexander Nikolov said.
Mr Nikolov said that joint steps, including potential joint purchases, would be discussed at the forthcoming meeting with the European Commission.
Also, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov urged citizens not to worry as “things are absolutely under control.”
Mr Petkov added that the government had a plan for the situation and that gas supplies to consumers would not be reduced.
Deputy prime minister for EU funds and the ministers of finance and energy would go to Brussels on Thursday, according to Mr Petkov.
To date, Russia has covered almost all of Bulgaria’s gas needs.
