RTEAN to support FRSC in checking thuggery at motor parks

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has promised to support the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to checkmake touting, thuggery and hooliganism in motor parks across the country.
RTEAN’s National President, Musa Muhammed, made the pledge on Friday during a courtesy visit of its executive members to the FRSC headquarters in Abuja.
Mr Musa said that the association has the legal authority over all motor parks’ activities across the country, to ensure orderliness and passengers’ welfare and safety.
RTEAN is the umbrella body of all owners, unions and individuals engaged in the transportation of passengers, goods and services in Nigeria.
“We are mandated to organise or participate in periodic road safety campaigns aimed at educating those actively involved in road transport.
“Drivers are expected to perform their civic responsibilities to the travelling masses and to see that they understand and adhere to the existing rules, regulations and codes.
“Generally, we do all that are humanly possible to enhance the prestige and smooth progress of the road transport industry in all shapes and forms.
“We assure you of our continuous maximum cooperation and support to ensure and restore sanity on our roads,” he said.
The RTEAN boss said that the association would support the FRSC to discharge its responsibilities to road users.
In his response, Acting Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu said the partnership in the areas of public enlightenment and education would help in curtailing road crashes.
Mr Biu enjoined members of RTEAN to use the 122 toll free number during emergencies, and tune to its Traffic Radio 107.1fm for traffic update and enlightenment.
