Rivers state commissioner for works resigns amid Wike, Fubara rift

The Rivers State commissioner for works, Dax George-Kelly, has joined the growing list of resignations in Governor Sim Fubara’s cabinet.
In a letter addressed to the governor on Thursday, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the state and announced his immediate resignation as the commissioner for works, citing his conscience, personal philosophy, and professional ethics as the basis for his decision.
The letter read, “I hereby resign my appointment as the Commissioner for Works, effective immediately.
“My decision to resign is anchored on my conscience, personal philosophy and professional ethics. The decision was taken after deep introspection.
“I appreciate Your Excellency for the opportunity to serve my beloved Rivers State as the Commissioner for Works,” he stated.
The state’s attorney general, Zachaus Adango, also tendered his resignation on the same day, citing personal reasons.
The political turmoil in the state, marked by a feud between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, has resulted in the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the demolition of the state assembly complex.
