Rivers sole administrator suspends all appointees

The Rivers State sole administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has suspended all political appointees and officeholders in the state with immediate effect.
The chief of staff to Mr Ibas disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Ibas said those affected include “the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, honourable commissioners, chairmen and members of all boards, councils of agencies, commissions, institutions, parastatals, special advisers, special assistants, and senior special assistants.”
“This suspension takes effect from Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The affected officers are to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their MDAs. Where there may be no Permanent Secretary, they are to hand over to the most senior director/head of administration.”
The statement added that the suspension was in line with the powers conferred on Mr Ibas by President Bola Tinubu.
The development also follows the president’s six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and the House of Assembly due to the 14-month-old political crisis in the state, which also involves FCT minister Nyesom Wike.
