The Rivers Police Command on Sunday confirmed an attack on Goodluck Iheamnacho, the sole administrator of the Ahoada-East Local Government Area of the state.

The state police public relations officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said Mr Iheamnacho was attacked by about 30 hoodlums led by his chief security officer and chief of staff at about 1:40 p.m. on Friday.

“On 20th June 2025, at about 1340hrs, a group of hoodlums numbering about thirty, led by Mr Hector Ekakita, the chief security officer (CSO) and the chief of staff (COS) to the sole administrator, respectively, stormed the council secretariat and attacked him.

“During the attack, the hoodlums assaulted the sole administrator, stole his mobile phones, forced him to sign a letter purporting his resignation, and carted away vital documents, including official and personal documents, from his office,” Ms Iringe-Koko stated.

The police spokesperson stated the administrator is currently undergoing medical treatment due to the injuries sustained during the violent attack but is in a stable condition.

She condemned the attack and disclosed that the state commissioner of police had directed the perpetrators to visit the command headquarters for questioning.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, after visiting the scene of the attack with heads of other sister security agencies in the state, has directed the chief security officer (CSO), chief of staff (CoS), and all those involved in this action to report to the police state headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, for questioning,” she added.

Mr Adepoju noted that there would be severe consequences if the suspects failed to honour the police’s invitation.

“The command is resolute in its pursuit of justice and warns that failure to comply with this invitation will attract severe consequences,” she added.

Mr Iheamnacho was seen in a trending video rolling on the floor and viciously caned by assailants with uncovered faces.

An off-camera voice in the clip prompted Mr Iheamnacho to sign a letter set before him, while a latter part of the video showed some assailants assaulting another man, suspected of planning to disclose the incident.

However, in a radio interview on Saturday, Mr Iheamnacho said, “I was attacked in my office, and the letter they brought was not signed by me. I know nothing about the letter.”
