Reps task FCT judiciary on fairness, accountability

The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Judiciary on Friday tasked judicial officers in the territory with fairness and accountability.
Adamu Gamawa, the committee chairman, made the call at the meeting of members in Abuja.
The Speaker of the House of Reps, Tajudeen Abbas, recently appointed Mr Gamawa as the substantive chairman of the committee.
While meeting with the committee members, Mr Gamawa said justice delayed is justice denied, stressing the need for efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of justice.
He said the committee would proceed on an oversight visit to courts and other agencies within the judiciary.
Mr Gamawa said the purpose of the oversight was to allow the legislators to know the level of progress and challenges for better performance.
He said if the FCT judiciary is on the right track, progress will extend to other states in the country.
Mr Gamawa called on relevant stakeholders in the judiciary to work together to achieve the desired result.
