Remains of former Chinese premier Li to be cremated Thursday

The body of former Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang is to be cremated in Beijing on Thursday following his sudden death, state media reported.
Flags at Tiananmen Square, the Great Hall of the People, government buildings, embassies, and consulates are to be flown at half-mast on Thursday, a state news agency said on Tuesday.
The former Chinese premier died unexpectedly of a heart attack in Shanghai early on Friday at 68. On the same day, his body was brought to Beijing by a special flight.
Mr Li stepped down as prime minister in March after 10 years in office.
Under state and party leader Xi Jinping, he became a lame duck after being effectively sidelined.
He advocated for market-oriented policies and an open China.
Tributes poured in on Chinese social media following his death. Many people have been laying flowers in front of the house where Mr Li grew up in Hefei, in the south-eastern province of Anhui.
Observers regarded the public’s mourning as a challenge to the ruling Communist Party, which could possibly lead to protests.
