Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson were left out of Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provisional England squad for the 2024 UEFA European Championship in Germany next month.

Rashford struggled for United during the just-concluded season, scoring just eight goals in 42 games, while Henderson had an unsuccessful campaign with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq and Ajax after he moved there in January.

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling is one of the big names who could not make the preliminary England squad for the Euro 2024.

Meanwhile, Southgate named some surprising inclusions in the 33-man provisional squad list, which includes Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, and Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah.

Man United youngster Kobbie Maino and Chelsea wonder star Cole Palmer deservedly made the list. Another United player, Luke Shaw, who was injured for most of the season, was surprisingly included by Southgate.

Southgate must trim the squad to 26 players before the June 7 deadline for the final submission.
