Rapist of seven-year-old girl arrested, arraigned in Lagos

The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded a 39-year-old man, Chibuike Ajunwa, in Kirikiri prison custody for defiling a seven-year-old girl.
Chief magistrate E. Kubeinje did not take Mr Ajunwa’s plea, pending legal advice from the director of public prosecutions.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until April 17 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, SP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Mr Ajunwa, who lives in Igando, Lagos, defiled the seven-year-old girl.
The police said the offence contravened section 27 and is punishable under Section 210(8) of the Child’s Rights Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant is liable to life imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.
