Ramadan: Market, traders union begs members not to hike food prices

The National President, Market and Traders Association of Nigeria, Abbas Jamilu, has begged members not to hike prices of goods and commodities during Ramadan.
In a statement on Friday in Abuja, Mr Jamilu urged them to have the fear of God and shun exploitation of spiritual and festive occasions to enjoy more blessings.
He said that some marketers and traders were fond of jerking up prices of their goods.
According to him, Nigerians are facing harsh economic times with poor income that has made survival somehow difficult.
He also called on the Federal Government to review and make its economic policies citizen-friendly.
He added, “Besides, the other tiers of state and local governments should also do the needful, by cushioning the effects of the harsh economy.’’.
Wishing Muslims a successful Ramadan, he urged faithful to imbibe and practice the lessons of the season.
Mr Jamilu, who is also the Special Adviser to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Cooperatives, appealed to wealthy individuals, philanthropists and organisations to help the needy in society.
