Quadri Aruna Jr. clinches bronze at debut WTT youth contender in Spain

Quadri Aruna Jr, son of Nigerian table tennis legend Quadri Aruna on Monday clinched bronze in his first international debut after competing at the 2024 World Table Tennis Youth Contender in Villarreal, Spain.
Coached by their mother Aruna Ganiyat, Aruna Jr competed alongside her sister, Mariam Aruna, in the cadet class in Spain but it was Aruna Jr that clinched silverware after securing bronze medal in the U11 category.
Reacting to her son’s win, Mrs Ganiyat, said the days before the tournament were not easy but expressed gratitude over Aruna Jr’s bronze medal, stating that they were just starting.
The duo are following in the footsteps of their father who has dominated the continent as the best African player in the rectangular table game for years now.
“What a way to end the WTT Youth Contender Villa real! The past few days haven’t been easy, but thank God for the happy ending,” Mrs Ganiyat said.
She added: “@arunaquadrijunior won a bronze medal at the under 11 category at his first WTT appearance. We are just getting started. Coming back stronger, Insha Allah.’’
