Russian President Vladimir Putin says he is open to the 30-day ceasefire truce being put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.

Nonetheless, Mr Putin insists numerous conditions still need to be discussed as the U.S. government continues to intensify efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end.

Mr Putin disclosed this during a news conference in Moscow on Thursday.

The statement was an apparent response to the ceasefire deal reached between the U.S. and Ukraine earlier this week following a meeting in Saudi Arabia but heavily dependent on Russia agreeing to temporarily halt military hostilities in Ukraine.

The Russian leader maintained his country is in no hurry to suspend military operations but noted any agreement for a ceasefire must be on his terms, making a series of demands for concessions by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, which experts have said would amount to a “surrender” by Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump revealed during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office on Thursday that there are “very serious discussions” with Mr Putin and others as they try to finalise a 30-day ceasefire deal.

“Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing,” Mr Trump told reporters during an Oval Office meeting with Mr Rutte. “I don’t think they will go back to shooting.”

Messrs Trump and Putin have expressed readiness to speak with each other soon to discuss various issues involving the two countries.
