Presidential Poll: Tinubu sets up committee to beg Peter Obi, Atiku

President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has set up a committee to meet with and appeal to aggrieved presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
This was disclosed in a statement by Ondo governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Wednesday.
“The President-elect has set up committees to meet with the gentlemen who contested in the election for us to start the healing process. I belong to one of the committees. We are going to meet them and appeal to them so that we can work together,” Mr Akeredolu said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, declared Mr Tinubu winner of Saturday’s presidential election at the National Collation Centre, Abuja. Mr Tinubu was subsequently issued a Certificate of Return the same day.
The declaration of Mr Tinubu as the president-elect came amidst huge protests by PDP and Labour Party, who called for the suspension of result collation and outright cancellation of the presidential poll due to INEC’s failure to upload election results on its server in real time.
In a press conference at Hilton, Abuja, on Thursday, Mr Obi had said “we will explore all legal and peaceful options to reclaim our mandate. We won the election and we will prove it to Nigerians.”
Mr Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, winning 12 of 36 states of Nigeria.
Mr Abubakar polled 6,984,520 votes to come second, while Peter Obi of Labour Party, came third, polling 6,101,533 votes.
