PoS operator remanded for allegedly absconding with employer’s N1.8 million

A Kaduna State Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of one Caleb John, a Point of Sale operator, who allegedly absconded with his employer’s N1.8 million.
John is being prosecuted for alleged criminal breach of trust and stealing, but pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, remanded the defendant in a correctional facility.
He subsequently adjourned the case until November 21 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the complainant, Moses Zechariah, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kaduna on October 23.
Mr Leo said that the complainant reported that he employed the defendant as a PoS operator, and on October 12, directed him to transfer N1.8million into the company’s business account.
The prosecutor said that Zechariah alleged that the defendant issued him an old receipt bearing October 25 for the said transfer and absconded with the money.
“All efforts made by the complainant to reach the defendant or get his money back proved abortive. The defendant was, however, arrested by the police on October 27 at his friend’s residence in Maraba Rido, Kaduna,” Mr Leo said.
He urged the court to remand the defendant to enable him conclude investigations.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
