PoS attendant arraigned for using employer’s N1 million to gamble

A 24-year-old Point of Sales (POS) attendant, Yusuf Olamilekan, on Monday appeared before the Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun, charged with stealing N1 million belonging to his employer.
Mr Olamilekan, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 7, at 6:00 p.m., in Sango-Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant unlawfully withdrew N1 million from the account of his employer, Emeka and Jane Company, without consent to play a game of chance.
He said the defendant subsequently lost the money.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 383 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Mr Fadairo said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
The case was adjourned till May 27 for a hearing.
