Politicians saying Tinubu isn’t performing wrong, blind: Onanuga

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has lashed out at politicians in the opposition coalition, claiming President Bola Tinubu is a non-performer.
In a post on X on Tuesday, the presidential spokesperson noted that criticisms against Mr Tinubu were wrong.
“President Tinubu is not doing well, he is not governing Nigeria well, so claim the desperate opposition. But the data is showing that they are wrong and blind,” Mr Onanuga said.
Claiming Mr Tinubu has reformed the Nigerian economy, Mr Onanuga said “Nigeria’s economy under the reforming presidency of Bola Tinubu demonstrates resilience and prospects of growth. Big money has taken adequate notice and the owners are heading to Nigeria to invest their funds, according to Cardinal Stone.”
Interim spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress, the newly adopted party for a new political coalition, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC doesn’t respond to verbal attacks but would be ready to debate with the government on increasing poverty it caused.
“ADC doesn’t respond to personal attacks. As a matter of policy, we don’t respond to personal attacks,” Mr Abdullahi said.
The ADC spokesperson added, “If a spokesperson for the government has something to say or to debate on the issues we are raising, which is poverty in Nigeria and the policies of the government that have created it, we are ready to talk. But with all these abuses, we don’t have time for them. I’m sorry.”
The International Monetary Fund noted that poverty and insecurity had risen under Mr Tinubu though it lauded the administration’s economic policies.
The World Bank’s Africa Pulse report of April 2025 also stated that Nigeria, under Mr Tinubu, has the highest number of extremely poor people globally, warning that more Nigerians would be plunged into poverty by 2027.
With inflation at 23.7 per cent, a drop from 34 per cent after rebasing the economy, Nigeria recorded the largest increase in acute food insecurity globally in 2024, according to the 2025 Global Report on Food Crises published by the Global Network Against Food Crises in collaboration with the Food Security Information Network and UNICEF.
