Police kill gunman as armed gang opens fire on patrol team in Plateau

The police in Plateau killed a suspect in a gun duel on Tuesday at Du community in Jos South Local Government Area and recovered one AK-47 rifle and live ammunition.
Police spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, stated on Thursday in Jos that a patrol team sighted some gunmen who criminally barricaded the road in Du on Tuesday.
He added that rather than surrender, the gunmen opened fire on the police operatives.
“Upon sighting police operatives, the gunmen engaged them in a fierce gun battle but they were subdued. One was shot dead while others fled with gunshot injuries.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects were one AK47 rifle with breach number AE 353550 and eight rounds of 7.62 ×39mm live ammunition.
“Efforts are in top gear to apprehend fleeing members of the gang as investigation is still in progress,’’ he stated.
Mr Alabo added that the Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Bartholomew Onyeka, called on residents to report any suspicious movements within their vicinities to security agencies for prompt response.
He stated that Mr Onyeka also assured residents that the police and other security agencies would continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of their lives and property.
