Operatives attached to Gitata Division of the Nasarawa State Police Command, have arrested one of two suspects for kidnapping a teenage secondary school student beside a mosque in Gitata.

The command, in a post on X, on Wednesday, said the operatives, made the arrest, after receiving intel about the location of the kidnappers, mobilised to the scene, and rescued the victim.

The command said, “Police operatives attached to Gitata Division arrested one Jamilu Salisu of Ditsenma, Katsina State, for the abduction of a 14-year-old JSS 2 student of UBE Gitata.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect abducted the victim beside a mosque in Gitata and took him into the forest.

“Police received information from a good Samaritan who sighted the suspect while taking the victim to a riverbank. Operatives swiftly mobilized to the area, arrested the suspect, and rescued the victim. One accomplice escaped and is currently at large.

The state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspect and a thorough investigation into the cases.

The command also said that its Anti-Robbery Squad, in its ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and related crimes, on Tuesday, rescued a passenger kidnapped in Kireyi Village, while on a motorcycle from Lafia to Assakio.

The command said, “On February 3, 2026, at about 1510hrs, a patrol team of the Anti-Robbery Squad rescued one David O., male, of Tudun Amba area of Lafia. The victim had earlier boarded a commercial motorcycle from Lafia to Assakio. On reaching Kireyi Village, the motorcyclist allegedly diverted into a bush path and forcefully took him inside the forest.

“Police operatives on routine patrol received intelligence on the incident and immediately launched a search operation. The victim was subsequently found in the bush and rescued, while the suspect fled the scene.”

According to the police, the victim said he managed to escape from the kidnappers’ den before the arrival of the police.
