Sunday Eitokpah, the spokesperson for the police command in Cross River, says about 9,975 applicants have applied for the state’s available slots in the ongoing recruitment process.

Mr Eitokpah disclosed this in an interview in Calabar on Tuesday. He explained that the available slots for Cross River would be distributed equally across the 18 LGAs.

The officer assured prospective applicants that the exercise would be merit-based.

“The exercise commenced on Monday with physical and credential screening meant for applicants who successfully completed their online registration,” he said.

Mr Eitokpah further stated that the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise was for general-duty and specialist police constable positions.

“The command reiterates that the recruitment screening process is completely free of charge and will be conducted strictly on merit, in line with the highest standards of professionalism, transparency and accountability.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report any individual or group demanding gratification or inducement in connection with the exercise,” he stated.

The 2025/2026 recruitment exercise is to recruit 50,000 officers.
