The police command in Kaduna State said its operatives recovered stolen vehicles and detained eight suspects in different operations.

The spokesperson for the command, Mansir Hassan, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Kaduna.

Mr Hassan said, “On April 24, at about 2:00 p.m, the command received credible intelligence that a victim of an earlier armed robbery incident had sighted and was discreetly following his stolen vehicle, a Peugeot (Fiat). He said that his vehicle was forcefully snatched at gunpoint along the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway on December 17, 2024, with a cash sum of N3.25 million. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the officer-in-charge of the anti-kidnapping unit led a tactical team to Kujama, where two suspects were arrested in possession of the said vehicle.’’.

He identified the suspects as Christian Allemo and Uchenna Ike, both residents of Kujama.

He added that upon interrogation, the suspects claimed they bought the vehicle from an unknown person.

“Both suspects, along with the recovered vehicle, are currently in police custody, while further investigations are ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the case and apprehend all those involved,” he said.

In another development, Mr Hassan said the command received a distress call at about 9:20 p.m. from the control room alerting officers to a stolen Mitsubishi Hilux, reportedly taken from Abuja and heading toward the Kawo area.

Upon receiving the alert, the Divisional Police Officer of Kawo swiftly deployed surveillance and patrol teams to intercept the vehicle.

“Through strategic coordination, the officers successfully blocked Unguwan Gwari, leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects,” he said.

Mr Hassan added that the command also, on April 12, at about 2:30 p.m., received a report from a good ‘Samaritan’ from Dangote Company.

He said that the ‘samaritan’ reported that a truck loaded with 900 bags of cement departed Dangote Cement Plant, Obajana, on April 6, en route to Maiduguri.

He said the truck had not been seen since departure, while the driver’s phone number had been switched off.

“Following an intensive search, the missing truck was located inside a garage at Maraban, Jos. Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team of policemen to the location, where one Abdulfatai Abubakar was arrested.

“During interrogation, he confessed to having purchased the said truck from one Aliyu Abdulrahman (also known as Dan’Ali) at Anguwan Muazu. Further investigation led to the arrest of five suspects in connection with the crime. During investigation, another stolen Dangote truck was also recovered. The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue,” he said.

The spokesperson said the commissioner of police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the officers for the good work.

He assured the public that the command would continue to intensify visibility policing and clamp down on miscreants across the state.
