Police probe officers accused of extorting motorist in Abuja

The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called some of its operatives for questioning over the alleged extortion of a motorist who allegedly violated traffic regulations in Kubwa.
In a statement on the command’s X handle on Tuesday, the police public relations officer, Josephine Adeh, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the investigation was ongoing.
The police said the development followed a video showing the officers indulging in the extortion, which happened on Saturday and went viral on social media.
“In response to these allegations, the command has taken swift action by promptly identifying and inviting the officers seen in the video for questioning.
“An investigation into the matter is currently underway to determine the facts of the case. The command urges the complainant to come forward and provide further substantiation of her claims,” the police said.
The police promised to maintain high standards of professionalism and ensure that errant officers account for their actions, urging residents to report misconduct by operatives to the public complaints bureau via 09022222352 or the complaint response unit on 08107314192.
