Police nab Lagos driver for stealing bags of rice

On Thursday, the police arraigned a 29-year-old man, Yakub Oguntosin, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for stealing 60 bags of rice valued at N3.9 million.
The defendant is facing a one-count charge of stealing. He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in November 2024 at about 7:00 p.m. at Farasime via Apa area of Badagry, Lagos.
He alleged the defendant stole 60 bags of foreign parboiled rice valued at N3,900,000 from the property of Bankole Oluwaseyi, the complainant.
“The defendant, who was a driver, was paid to deliver the rice at Badagry but absconded with the rice.
“He was caught two months later, arrested and handed over to police for prosecution,” Mr Adeosun said.
The chief magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail of N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mr Adekomaiya adjourned the case until April 2 for mention.
