Police issue alert, order maximum security for schools, churches, prisons in Delta

The police commissioner in Delta, Yemi Oyeniyi, has ordered area commanders and divisional police officers to ensure maximum security in schools, churches, mosques, and correctional centres in their respective areas of responsibility.
The commissioner issued the order during a meeting attended by members of the command management team, area commanders, tactical commanders, DPOs, and department heads.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, on Thursday in Asaba.
Mr Oyeniyi directed the senior police officers to ensure adequate security in their areas of responsibility.
“Area commanders and DPOs must locate schools, churches, mosques, and correctional centres in their areas and ensure that maximum security is provided and maintain regular visits,” Mr Oyeniyi said.
The police chief further directed all supervising officers to ensure strict compliance with the force’s existing rules and regulations. He warned that they would be held liable for the professional misconduct of officers under their supervision.
The commissioner enjoined all DPOs to engage critical stakeholders within their areas of responsibility and sensitise them to the need to be security-conscious of their environments.
Mr Oyeniyi decried the rising incidents of murder in the state, adding, “DPOs must engage members of the community they police on the need to avoid escalating issues that could lead to violence and sometimes death.”
He encouraged all officers of the command to always appear smart, neat, and to have their name tags on display.
“Any officer without a name tag on their uniform or approved tactical vest will be sanctioned, and their supervising officer will be held vicariously liable,” he warned.
