Police charge Osun vet doctor with fraud over N119,000 dog food scam

A 37-year-old veterinarian, Omigbiyegbe Oladapo, was on Wednesday docked in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for alleged N119,000 fraud.
The police charged Oladapo with two counts of fraud.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in March, in Lagere, Ile-Ife.
Mr Osanyintuyi said that the defendant fraudulently obtained N119,000 from Awotunbo Sunday to buy dog food but he failed to do so.
He said that the defendant fraudulently converted the N119,000 which he dubiously collected from Sunday to his own use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 383, 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
Defence Counsel Oluwatoyin Lawal-Olatunji, pleaded for the bail for his client in the most liberal terms, adding that her client would not jump bail but would produce responsible sureties.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Mrs Sarumi ordered that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction, land owner property, address to be verified by the prosecutor.
She stated further that the surety must present a three-year tax clearance certificate with three recent passport photographs.
The case was adjourned until May 15, for hearing.
