Police ask court to dismiss Afe Babalola’s defamation case against Dele Farotimi

The police have filed an application at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti Division, seeking to withdraw the defamation case against activist Dele Farotimi.
The move to withdraw the defamation suit filed by IGP Kayode Egbetokun was stated in a notice of discontinuance dated January 29, 2025.
The notice was filed in accordance with Section 108 (1) (2)(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, and signed by the police prosecutor, Samson Osubu.
According to the notice, the police want the case dismissed as requested by the nominal complainant, Afe Babalola.
The prosecution has already served the notice on the defendant’s counsel in court, as both parties to the suit are presently awaiting the judge’s sitting to strike out the charge formally.
The latest development came after clerics, politicians, traditional rulers and other well-meaning Nigerians intervened.
