The police command in Gombe State has arrested a suspected cable thief, Ahijo Boyi, 29, of Burundi Quarters, Akko Local Government Area.

In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesman, Buhari Abdullahi, said four rolls of vandalised high-tension electric cables were recovered from the suspect on Saturday.

“On 31st October 2026, at about 0900hrs, a team of police operatives on visibility patrol with the assistance of members of the community arrested the above-mentioned suspect,” he said.

He stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the recovered cables were vandalised from the high-tension electricity line stretching from the 301 Army Artillery Regiment to the Gona area.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have conspired with three other accomplices, who are currently at large, to perpetrate the crime,” Mr Abdullahi said.

The state commissioner of police, Umar Ahmed Chuso, commended the officers and community members for their timely cooperation, which led to the arrest and recovery of the exhibits.

He added that the investigation was ongoing, while efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
