Police arrest Lagos man over N40,000 gambling on credit at bet9ja

The Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos remanded Ogwuche Desmond, 29, on Tuesday for allegedly using the bet9ja platform to bet N40,000 on credit.
The magistrate, O.O. Otitoju, ordered the defendant remanded in prison custody until May 10 to review the case facts and sentencing.
The defendant pleaded guilty to a charge of obtaining under false pretences.
The prosecutor, Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 23 at No 15 Bode Thomas St., Surulere Lagos.
Mr Ekhueorohan said an employee at the bet9ja shop, Novah Jerry, had allowed the defendant to gamble after he promised to pay its worth of N40,000.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes section 315 (1) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and attracts 15 years’ imprisonment on conviction.
