Police arrest Kaduna sales boy for stealing multimillion-naira phone accessories

A 21-year-old sales boy, Abdullahi Dalhatu, was arraigned on Thursday before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna over alleged theft of phone accessories worth N3.9 million.
The defendant, a resident of Kinkinau in Kaduna, was standing trial for a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that one Haruna Jafar of the same address as the defendant reported the matter at the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department on January 25.
“The defendant, a sales boy at “Jafar Jafar Phones and Accessories” at Kawo Kaduna, conspired with two others at large and stole phone accessories worth N3.9 million from his employer’s shop.
“During our investigations into the matter, the defendant was arrested, and he confessed to having committed the offences,” he said.
Mr Leo said the offences contravened sections 59 and 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
According to him, section 271 stipulates three years jail term for stealing if found guilty.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant N200,000 bail with one surety in like sum, who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
He said the surety’s address must be verified and adjourned the matter until March 20 for the hearing.
