Police arrest, jail 22-year-old for stealing gas cylinder

On Monday, a Jos Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 22-year-old labourer, Emmanuel Ugwu, to six months in prison for stealing a gas cylinder.
The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, however, gave the convict an option of a fine of N50,000.
The prosecutor, Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘C’ Division Police Station on March 8 by Gift Ugwu, the complainant.
Mr Thiawur said the convict stole the cylinder with three-kilogramme gas content valued at N46,400 from the complainant’s house before he was caught.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
