Police arrest ex-convict for attempted robbery in Lagos traffic

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, arrested one Olayinka Oluwaseyi, armed with knives in Mile 12, after foiling his attempt to rob a motorist of his valuables.
Spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Wednesday, said the suspect is an ex-convict released from prison in February, for a similar crime.
He said, “Patrol officers of Ketu Division have arrested one Olayinka Oluwaseyi ‘m’, aged 28, while attempting to rob a male motorist on Mile 12 Bridge. The suspect, who was armed with two knives, was arrested on May 13, 2025, at about 1:30 am.
Mr Hundeyin said, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that Olayinka Oluwaseyi was released from prison three months ago for the same crime. He is currently in custody while investigations continue, with the suspect set to be arraigned once investigations are concluded. One other suspect involved in the attempted robbery is currently at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,”
Applauding the vigilance and professionalism of the patrol team of the division, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, reiterated the command’s stance against criminality, especially traffic robbery, and vowed to clamp down on those threatening the safety of residents.
