Police arrest activist Ayo Sogunro in Abuja

Rights activist Ayo Sogunro has said he was arrested and detained by the Nigerian Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Mr Sogunro, who took to Twitter on Friday, claimed in a series of tweets that police invaded his hotel room after a female friend paid him a visit just one hour after arriving in Nigeria.
He alleged that police had followed him from the airport upon his arrival in Nigeria.
“Nigerian police arresting me for seeing a female friend in my room one hour in Nigeria,
“Five police officers stormed my hotel room….,” his tweet reads.
He later revealed that he was detained at Garki police station.
Mr Sogunro is a well-known activist in Nigeria. He had participated in the #EndSARS protest against police brutality while he continues to criticise the APC government.
Efforts to reach Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, were unsuccessful. He did not respond to multiple calls and messages sent to his known phone number on Saturday.
