On Monday, the police command in Lagos arraigned a 30-year-old man, Victor Michael, before the Badagry Chief Magistrate’s Court for stealing an Infinix smartphone.

The phone was valued at N48,000.

The defendant, of no fixed address, was charged with stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 15, at about 11:30 p.m., in the Iyana-Ilogbo area of Lagos.

Mr Okuoimose alleged that the defendant waylaid the complainant, Ganiyu Hammed, and dispossessed him of the phone.

“Michael was arrested with the stolen property and handed over to the police for prosecution,” said the command’s spokesman.

The Chief Magistrate, Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Mr Adefioye adjourned the case until April 26 for mention.
