Police arrest 11 as youths, secondary school students fight over girl in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects over alleged thuggery and breach of public peace in the Chaichainiya area of Kaduna Road in Suleja.
SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s public relations officer, said this in a statement on Sunday in Minna, the state capital.
Mr Abiodun said the arrest followed a report received on March 6, at about 11:00 p.m., that youths and some secondary school students were fighting at Chaichainiya.
The command’s spokesman said the investigation revealed that the incident started between two boys, including one Umar Idris, fighting for a girl’s attention.
“It was reported that during the incident, gunshots were heard from different directions, which hit two victims on their laps, one Nura and Imrana, both 10 and 11 years of age, respectively.
“However, during the police covert operation, 11 suspects, including the said Idris, were arrested and under investigation.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that a personnel of a sister security agency was responsible for the shooting that led to the gunshot injuries of the two victims,” he said.
Mr Abiodun said the investigation was ongoing and further information would be made available to the public.
